David Lee McCreery, 87, passed away on March 2, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Dave was born on October 11, 1937 in LaJunta Colorado; the son of Levert McCreery and Esther Giles Weid. He was the youngest of18 children. On June 5, 1960 he married JoAnn Greenwood in Liberal, KS. Together, the two shared nearly 65 loving years of marriage.

In 1956, Dave left Liberal, KS to join the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he met his love JoAnn in 1960 and they decided that they wanted to look at each other from across the table for the rest of their lives. After they were married, Dave worked for Safeway in Denver, CO until 1965. During this time, Dave and JoAnn welcomed 3 beautiful daughters.

Over the next few decades Dave and JoAnn lived and worked in a number of different places. After leaving Denver the two went back to Liberal, KS, where he worked for Gibsons. From there they headed to Hutchinson and Wichita to work for Nash Finch Co in 1966. After that they made their move to Oxford, KS in 1976, where they owned and operated their own store, Jack & Jill. In 1988 they made another move, selling the Oxford store and buying a store in Perryton, TX for awhile. After leaving Perryton, they bought another store in Turon, KS where they stayed until the two eventually retired to Cape Fair, MO. During their time in Cape Fair, the pair continued working some at Silver Dollar City until they fully retired from working.

After fully retiring the pair were able to invest their time in hobbies that they loved, JoAnn’s being quilting and Dave’s being fishing. Dave also loved to do woodwork and make things for everyone to enjoy. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan, even going to the first ever football game in 1961. He also loved his Dodgers baseball for many years and enjoyed seeing them win the world series this past year.

Dave was very involved in his daughters lives. He coached and trained all of them to play softball, taught them to hunt, and taught them to love fishing and camping, even though he had to bait all of the hooks.

He is survived by his wife JoAnn McCreery,  his 3 daughters, Angela Thurston (Kirk), Sherry Combs (Troy), and Shelly Pond (David), 7 grandchildren, Adrian Langford (Josh), Amy Harris, Douglas Thurston (Angela), Nicholas Thurston, Casey Thurston (Jess), Chase Combs (Blanca), and Cory Combs (Meighan), 9 great grandchildren and one sister, Betty Jo Stewart.

Dave will be missed for his love and patience of his family. There will not be services held at this time.
